In 1984, Gong Weiying, who was in high school, started helping his mother raise rabbits. 　　1999年，已在当地养兔行业小有成就的他进一步扩大养殖场的规模，从老家搬到了蒙阴县城，长毛兔规模已从初的20只发展到上千只。有了一定的资金积累，公为迎雇了一批工人养兔，他则把精力放在养兔的“发明创造”上。他研制的电动搂毛器，与吊挂式剪毛法相结合，解决了长毛兔剪毛费工费时等难题，2014年获实用新型和外观设计两项。他结合庭院客观条件发明的“宝塔兔笼”，具有占地面积小、自助喂料、节约用工等优点，2016年获外观设计。

In 2014, it obtained two national utility model and design patents. He invented the "Baota Rabbit Cage" based on the objective conditions of the courtyard, which has the advantages of small footprint, self-service feeding, and labor saving. It obtained a national design patent in 2016.

　　2012年后，在长毛兔市场普遍追求高产、兔毛粗直壮的大背景下，他另辟蹊径，花七八年时间，选育出绒毛性长毛兔。所产兔绒细密纤长，被称为“纤维中的软黄金”，先后推广到河北、山西、辽宁等地。近年来，兔毛行情低迷，他积极探索，又选育出“观赏产绒多用兔”，带动蒙阴当地养殖户共同致富。
